Melody Rose has expanded with a new range of British made bone china tableware. Working with the finest manufacturers from Stoke-on-Trent, the ‘Potteries’ home of England’s ceramics industry, we’ve created a line of beautiful, quirky tableware to add to the upcycled range.

The pieces are gloriously gilded by hand then fired with designs from the Melody Rose collection in our London studio. Choose from three sizes of plates, sugar bowls, tea and coffee pots, cups with saucers and cake plates to create a unique setting.

The upcycled pieces have proved so popular, requests for tableware, full dinner sets and tea sets were piling up. The new range will turn the modest dining table into an everyday masterpiece. Of course, they can still be mixed and matched with upcycled pieces too.

To celebrate the launch, we’ve been working on new photos. For the first set, we were lucky to be able to borrow wallpaper from the wonderful Graduate Collection. http://www.graduatecollection.co.uk/

The Graduate Collection works with some of the most exciting new designers emerging fresh from UK Universities. Wonderful quality, their products include ceramics, wallpaper, cushions and scarves designed by a new generation of designers, fusing traditional designs with a contemporary flair. And everything in Made in the UK!

A great match for Melody Rose, we’ve used the Butterfly Wallpaper in Pink by Melissa Bracconier. It’s pretty, eccentric and a touch surreal. We love it!

This is the first year that Melody Rose will be at the show and we’re really looking forward to it. There are over 70 Designers showing their work and the show looks set to be a great one.

Although the show starts on Friday, most of the packing is already done. We designers start to set up for the show on Wednesday, two days from now.

Melody Rose will be launching two new teacups and saucer designs. Both cups are british made, using new bone china made in Stoke-on-Trent then gilded with real gold detail, designed and decorated by hand and fired in the London-based Melody Rose studios. These beautiful new cups, The ‘Models’ design and ‘Dragonflies’, are an addition to the Melody Rose range launched autumn of 2011.

I love the autumn. It’s definitely my favourite season. While autumn in London lacks the vibrant colourful display of my native home in Canada, it makes up for it with with sparkling warm days that feel like summer’s here again or maybe just here finally. There’s always something exciting about the autumn with a feeling of fresh beginnings and starting anew.

It definitely makes it easier to get back down to the busyness of work in the studio after the excitement and thrill of summer holidays, and of course September’s London Design Festival.

With a studio packed with pieces, many found on my travels through the UK and France this summer, I’m madly busy creating and making and firing.

Watch this space for wonderful new teapots coming this autumn.

Melody Rose Upcycled Vintage Ceramics is pleased to be included in an exciting new exhibition this summer at the Florence Nightingale Museum.

BONE
19 July – 31 August 2012
This summer, the Florence Nightingale Museum will host an eclectic exhibition of around 60 objects that explores the rich history and substance of bone, across cultures, throughout time and between disciplines.
Mobile Studio Architects will transform part of the museum allowing visitors to explore objects including an x-ray of Sigmund Freud’s head, a cat skeleton to ward off evil spirits, a skull shaped candle made for Marilyn Manson’s wedding, a contemporary apothecary jar showing the effects of syphilis on bone, cutting edge medical bone imaging and Florence Nightingale’s pet tortoise ‘Jimmy’.
The exhibition will reflect bone’s intriguing and multi-faceted story in its objects as well as through live performances and demonstrations by biomedical researchers and clinicians, forensic archaeologists, bone carvers, dancers, historians, artists and other professional bone users.

Simon Gould, BONE Curator says:
“I am so excited to be bringing together some of the most extraordinary objects from more than a dozen of London’s museums and collections along with remarkable medical expertise and acclaimed contemporary artists. Bone is an astonishing material and this exhibition promises to bring this to life for the visitor.”

BONE is curated by Simon Gould and Rhiannon Armstrong.
