English fine bone china set of 4 collectors medium size plates designed in an exclusive collaboration with one of Europe’s leading art museums – The Wallace Collection in Marylebone, London,  forms the second collaboration between Melody Rose and The Wallace Collection.

Selecting iconography from a decoratively carved fifteenth century European saddle, from the Wallace’ Armouries collection, designer, Melanie Roseveare has reimagined its romantic theme and poetic verse across four beautiful collectable bone china plates.

The origins of the artist are unknown, but decorated saddles from this period often depicted themes of love and lust and it was the touching story and social history that appealed to Melody Rose. In the original carving, with its Medieval German inscription, two sweethearts have been separated by war, and the woman is shown gathering mushrooms, possibly for a love potion or healing brew. Reminiscent of pictorial scenes portrayed on Delftware in later centuries, the narrative artwork chimed with Melody Rose and its irreverent way of transforming traditional imagery onto tableware. Ideal for decoration or dining, and crafted in Stoke-in-Trent from the finest bone china, the Saddle Plates series is a piece of ancient history brought beautifully back to life with a charming Melody Rose twist.
