OUR STORY

Founded in 2012, Melody Rose London is the brainchild of artist and designer Melanie Roseveare. An award-winning brand known for its elegantly eccentric high-quality fine bone china tableware and home textiles, perfect for design, art and music lovers, maximalists, dreamers and surrealists or for anyone with a love of fantastical stories and motifs that elevate everyday objects.

Melanie’s inspiration comes from a love of urban culture, vintage eccentricity, the fashion and art worlds and the circus. Influenced by a range of cultural movements including Modern Surrealism, surprising motifs unfold across a range of fine bone china tableware and velvet cushions.

From beautiful cups and saucers, plates, mugs and bowls to the high quality cushions, Melody Rose items can be enjoyed on their own, or mixed and matched allowing individuals to create their own unique set with a story. These fine modern collectables are luxury items designed to last a lifetime and made for every day use.

ORIGINS

Melanie founded Melody Rose with a passion for creating handcrafted pieces that feature playful designs full of fun, made to last a lifetime or longer.

Inspired by Grayson Perry’s 2003 Turner Prize winning show, his use of photographic transfers on pottery and irreverent mix of art and craft, Melanie began experimenting, firing surreal and quirky designs onto vintage cups, saucers and tea plates.

Delighted with the results, the first Melody Rose collection of Upcycled Ceramics was launched in London’s famous Portobello Road market, Notting Hill. Created in response to the rise in ‘disposable fast home-ware’, and reimagined with an eccentric twist, this traditional china was transformed into cool and collectable pieces, establishing Melody Rose as a highly covetable brand.

This ethos still runs through Melody Rose today. Due to its popularity, the company and collections have grown and Melody Rose fine bone china tableware is now produced by a third-generation pottery in Burselm, Stoke-on-Trent. Each piece is handmade, celebrating the best of British craftsmanship and the finest materials. Attention to detail remains key, right down to the hand-painted yet dishwasher-friendly 22kt burnished gold finish on each piece of bone china.

This mix of quality materials and heritage craftsmanship combined with new technologies and tongue-in-cheek humour has won Melody Rose numerous awards, and copious fans in the music, art, hospitality and design worlds.

Melody Rose has been invited to work on bespoke commissions for prestigious restaurants, catering companies and museums, such as The Wallace Collection, Hepworth Gallery, The National Gallery,  Frantzen in Stockholm, Singapore and London and new Mandarin Oriental in Zurich.
