Melody Rose Lee Miller Tea Set wins the ACE2019 Best Product of the Year and Overall Winner Best Product 2019
In summer 2018, The Hepworth Wakefield held the first major exhibition to look at the photography of Lee Miller in relation to Surrealism in Britain. To support the exhibition they wanted to produce a range of products that echoed the playful nature of Lee Miller’s Vogue photography. They chose to work with Melody Rose as they knew the brand had a reputation for high-quality, quirky ceramics.
For the collaboration, Melody Rose worked with the Museum and the Lee Miller Estate to choose tableware shapes that were specifically sourced for this project as they are reminiscent of the crockery owned by Lee Miller. Each line is being produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces, numbered on the base stamp. The Lee Miller tableware is edged in platinum and includes a dinner and side plate, teacup & saucer and a teapot.
“It was a pleasure to work with Melody Rose throughout the collaboration. She worked closely with the Lee Miller estate to source specific tableware shapes that were reminiscent of the crockery owned by Lee Miller, carefully researching Miller’s crockery that had been handed down through the generations. Each line was produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces. Not only did our visitors love the tableware but the Lee Miller estate were so delighted with the merchandise than we produced that they decided to stock it in their own shop at Farley’s House and Gallery, home of Lee Miller. This also gave us the opportunity to seethe tableware in Lee Miller’s own kitchen – a perfect way to tie up the product story!”
