Taking inspiration from the romance and thrill of life under the big top, Melody Rose designer Melanie Roseveare’s love of the circus led her to design not one but two circus inspired collections.
‘The Greatest Show on Earth’. Although the modern Circus is known to have begun in the 18th century, the first depictions of performing acrobats and jugglers appeared over 5,000 years ago in Egypt. Circus evolved in countries across the world featuring performances to thrill, entertain and delight. Paired with costumes, colours, music and comedy the Circus has a history that still continues to fascinate to this day.
Designer Melanie Roseveare has always loved the ‘romance’ of the circus and knew it would be one of the themes for the Melody Rose collections right from the beginning.
‘The Circus has the possibility of the extraordinary, experiences that border on the impossible. The colours, costumes and daring performances have intrigued me since the very first time I was taken to see a show when I was six years old, including sneaking in to see the performers behind the scenes. One of my very first and cherished memories.’
The Acts of Daring Collection

The ‘Acts of Daring’ collection was the first circus range to be launched, it was designed to celebrate the romance of life under the big top.
Trapeze girls and acrobatic boys fly through the air with the greatest of ease. A daring couple on the high wire capture moments of fun. The Acts of Daring collection conjures up the excitement of the Big Top.
The playful pieces work wonderfully as soloists or combined to create a daring story and unique collection. Layer up the Trapeze Girl plates to create a line of the aerial silks.
The Trapeze Girl and Trapeze Boy fine bone china collection has been ‘remastered’ and re-screenprinted in 2022 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Melody Rose, bringing a few new details and vivid colour to the original designs.
