We were absolutely delighted earlier this year when we were asked to design a bespoke set of plates for the acclaimed Swedish chef Bjorn Frantzen’s newest restaurant. Studio Frantzén London is the chef’s first UK restaurant and opened on 28th November 2022 at the iconic Harrods no less!
One of the world’s most celebrated chefs, Bjorn Frantzen’s restaurants Frantzén in Stockholm and Zen in Singapore each have three Michelin stars.
The new restaurant spans two floors in the landmark Harrods building, including an incredible new rooftop terrace and bar. The space has over 150 seats all set in a luxurious and contemporary interpretation of Scandinavian design.
Echoing the aesthetic of the flagship restaurant in Stockholm, everything from the music and bespoke tableware to the hand-painted mural has been meticulously designed.
To celebrate the opening of their first UK restaurant designer Melanie Roseveare has paid tribute to the chef with a playful take on Frantzén’s first name Bjorn, which translates to Bear in english.
The series of five ‘chef’ bears are light hearted and designed in Melody Rose’s signature style. The plates are exquisitely handcrafted, made in Stoke-on-Trent, England’s pottery heartland and feature 22kt burnished gold gilding.
This is the second collaboration for Melody Rose with Frantzén. Their Stockholm restaurant Brasserie Astoria feature Melody Rose side/dessert plates in 11 of our designs as well as bespoke small bowls.
Frantzén in Stockholm, was established twelve years ago and has been awarded three Michelin stars, the first restaurant in Sweden to achieve this accolade. With the Best Chef Top100 award 2019 also under his belt, Björn Frantzén has put not only the restaurant, he’s put Swedish cuisine firmly on the global gastronomy map, alongside that of its Danish and Norwegian neighbours.
A selection of ‘The Bears’ fine bone china plates will be available to buy from Melody Rose from Spring 2023.
