Melody Rose for The Wallace Collection – The Swing

In the third collaboration with The Wallace Collection Melody Rose pays homage to one of the museum’s most popular paintings, The Swing, by 18th century artist, Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Designer Melanie Roseveare has taken this historic imagery out of the prestigious gallery and into the home, where it can be enjoyed every day.

Painted in 1767, and notorious at the time for its naughtiness, The Swing’s heroine is a carefree young woman who, whilst being pushed on a swing, kicks off her shoe to give a fawning young admirer a teasing glimpse under her petticoats. In true Melody Rose style, Roseveare has deconstructed the famous artwork and transferred the joie de vivre of its central character onto The Swing tableware and cushions. Reflecting the Rococo flamboyance of the painting, the bone china cups and saucers have a fanciful style and decorative heritage shape, making them ideal for elegant afternoon tea parties or for simply elevating a favourite brew.

Melody Rose bone china is expertly crafted by a third generation pottery (who also supply the Royal Palaces) in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of English ceramics. Housing some of the finest examples of craftsmanship within its historic collections of Sevre porcelain, The Wallace Collection were drawn to Melody Rose’ high production values and ability to invigorate the traditional into something fresh and new, leading to this exciting partnership.

The Swing cushion is available in Lush Meadow Green velvet and finished with burnished gold tassels beautifully offsetting the palette of the painting.
